ENLARGEMENT: THE PARK GROWS 2.000 HECTARE

On August 2, 2010 the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, signed the decree establishing an important extension of the National Park of Appennino tosco-emiliano: over 2.000 hectares of land in addition to 23,613 already within the area covered. The park has thus taken the path projected in the 2001 decree establishing unifying the whole territory and giving continuity to the full perimeter. The process of enlargement has, however, provided a comparison with residents, business and associations, the deliberations of the councils, the opinion of the State-Region Conference and the investigation of the Minister of Environment.

"Our thanks to the people and administrators of these territories who wanted to make a choice for the present and the future. It a great achievement which rewards the work of those who believed in the Park not only as an instrument of environmental protection but also as opportunities for development. We will work to reciprocate trust." - Fausto Giovanelli, President of National Park of Appennino tosco-emiliano.

SOLOGNO IN THE PARK

Following the request for inclusion in the Park made by the inhabitants of the City of Sologno VillaMinozzo in 2001, the City Council proceeded to discuss the request for extension of the perimeter of the park to include a portion of the territory of their municipality of high environmental value. With the sign of President Napolitano joined the Park this portion of land that extends for approximately 176.5 hectares and covers entirely the watershed on which is Sologno between the eponymous river and Lucola and further north and the western slope of Mount Cafaggio. Although some habitats of conservation interest are represented within the proposed area, it is clear that the main change concerns the inclusion in the park of the village of Sologno with its residential areas still separated: Castello e Villa. To the historical-cultural values of the village must be added the particular landscape framework (chestnut fruit, meadows, paths, mills, channels, lime kilns, etc.) in which the morphology of the ridge between Lucola torrent and Rio of Sologno is one with the village that becomes an inseparable element in this context with its surroundings. In this context the inclusion of the village inside the park will undoubtedly need to implement measures of protection, preservation and development more efficient, complete and whole. Of particular interest is also the theme geology. The area is characterized by outcrops of steam, and sinkholes and karst sinkholes and underground karst systems.
